Unit 1 Proposal
I think I finally decided on going to the TCU Barnes and Noble to do my observations for my Unit 1 paper. What made me decide on this location is that I like spending time there myself, especially in the Starbucks while I wait for class or even just to meet up with a friend. I think that I will see a lot of different people with many different intentions. Some may go in to buy a coffee, look for a new good novel to read, buy a textbook, look for new TCU gear, or even just buy a birthday card. I will have to observe all the different parts to the bookstore, including the upstairs, downstairs, and Starbucks. I could potentially see students, professors, parents, coaches, fans, or random people who just saw the Barnes and Noble sign. I am definitely in the target audience, as I am a student who goes to TCU and who also lives on campus. Students need books and coffee and I am no exception to this generalization. I do think that I may see a lot of the same kinds of people, especially TCU students. I am hoping that more than just students and peers come into the bookstore to make my observations more interesting and to make this project more fun to do. I think this is going to be a challenging, yet interesting paper to write.

I was actually thinking of doing that myself but I was worried that I had the potential to O.D. on coffee with my ID card. I would suggest paying attention to aspects like the layout, the staff and what it means that the escalator is always broken. :) I think that is a great place to find a ton of information though. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI think you are going to find many different people with many different reasons for being there! I my self find my self spending time there to just kill time or when I'm in desperate need to shop and have no money (send home is the best thing ever)! I do think you are going to have a lot to pick out especially about the layout of the building! Good Luck and maybe I'll see you in there!

I like how you're spending time in a place where many people just run in, get their items, and leave as quick as they can without paying any attention to what's going on around them. I'm actually pretty curious to read what all you see! I would really pay attention the the furniture and the layout and possibly question why they chose the furniture they did and so on. Have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteJenna,
ReplyDeleteYou've chosen a great space for your public space analysis. The TCU bookstore is an active place on campus, so I think you'll have lots to observe. You may consider, as you get further into the project, limiting your analysis to one portion of this space (the starbucks cafe, perhaps?) so that you're not trying to look closely at too much. When performing analysis, it's sometimes better to examine one element closely rather than the entire space with broad strokes. Just a thought.
